What is a Bitcoin wallet?
Updated over a week ago

A Bitcoin wallet is a software program that allows you to store, receive and send Bitcoin. It is a bit like a virtual wallet in which you store your Bitcoin. Wallets come in different types. You can install a software wallet in the form of a mobile app from the app store or as a desktop application for your computer. Try the BlueWallet, for example.

For customers who want to get started immediately without any technical hurdles, we recommend the Coinfinity Card Wallet - an offline wallet in the format of a bank card.

For higher security or long-term storage, however, hardware wallets such as the BitBox02 or a Trezor are best suited. These are built in such a way that they never have direct contact with the internet despite being connected to a smartphone or computer.

Please make sure you do your own research and compare options before buying and setting up a wallet. It is important that you choose a wallet where you hold your private keys yourself. You can find out what these are here: What are private and public keys?
